The Eurasian Lynx is one of the most elusive and lesser-known wild cats of the Himalayas, rarely seen due to its secretive nature and preference for remote, rugged terrain. Found across parts of Central Asia, it survives in harsh high-altitude regions, where it silently stalks its prey through snow-covered landscapes. Ladakh’s Warila region has emerged as a promising location for tracking this rare predator, offering a chance to observe it in one of the most dramatic and untouched settings on earth. This expedition is timed for the colder months, when the lynx descends to lower altitudes in search of prey such as hares and blue sheep. These seasonal movements increase the chances of sightings, as the lynx traverses valleys also frequented by other remarkable species. Alongside the lynx, travelers may encounter the Red Fox, Himalayan Ibex, Woolly Hare, Lammergeier, and even the majestic Snow Leopard if fortune allows. This journey is not just a wildlife search — it’s an immersion into the raw, silent beauty of Ladakh’s winter wilderness.

For the lynx tracking expedition, you’ll stay in a traditional homestay in Sakti, just a 15-minute drive from the Warila region. This authentic village stay provides a closer connection to the local culture and landscape, offering simple comforts and heartfelt hospitality in the heart of lynx country.

2-10th February 2026Upon arrival at Leh airport, you will be received and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is reserved for rest and acclimatization to the high altitude. Overnight stay will be at the hotel.
Enjoy a half-day birding excursion combined with visits to the historic Shey Palace and the magnificent Thiksay Monastery. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Today, you will travel from Leh to drive towards the Warila region in search of the elusive lynx. After the excursion, return to Leh, Overnight at Grand Dragon. We will be using a homestay in Sakti which is a 15 mins drive from the Warila Region for guest use during the day excursion. Guest can also use this homestay to rest during the day.
